Why Lavallette for July 4th?
Lavallette is the calm, family-first counterpoint to the boardwalk towns a few miles south. Its Independence Day centers on Centennial Gardens and the bayfront gazebo, where a patriotic concert starts around 8 PM and fireworks go off about 9 PM over Barnegat Bay. The borough holds the show on the holiday weekend, with a rain date a week later, and a patriotic bike parade rolls through town on July 3.
The bay side gives Lavallette something the ocean towns can't: sunset. Families gather along the bayfront with chairs and blankets, kids decorate bikes for the parade, and the whole thing has the feel of a small-town Fourth rather than a tourist spectacle.
Days here are easy and uncrowded - swim in the morning, grab a singing scoop at the Music Man, and watch the sky go orange over the bay before the fireworks. Seaside Heights is close by if you want a louder night.
